I have three close married friends, black women married to black men. One husband is American, one is British and the other Jamaican. With the Jamaican one I was wary because I straight up thought he was stalking my friend all those years ago, it turns out he was overly smitten and after first meeting her started saving for the engagement ring because he knew she was going to be his wife. I can now rest easy and give him a pass as he wasn't crazy, just crazy in love.
My friends, and they'd all attest to this too, have great and wonderful husbands. One friend described her husband to me in an e-mail yesterday as being her angel and as single and unmarried as I am that made me smile right down to my heart, because I'm so happy they have these men in their lives who have or currently have to support their wives through very difficult times that in some situations a lot of men couldn't even deal with and go in the opposite direction. I've watched a friend unable to do a damn thing for herself after she got very sick. When your husband can bathe you, clothe you, get you in an out of the bed, and help you to the bathroom and hold your hair back when you can't stop vomiting and not complain about it, you know you have a good man right there. He definitely lived up to the 'in sickness and in health' vow and meant it. He'll take on two jobs because you're too sick to work and still take you out on date night to make you feel special even when you feel like crap.
These are the men my friends have in their lives and I'm eternally grateful to them for loving my friends the way that they do. I'm always going to worry and be concerned for my girls but that is definitely eased when I know their husbands will do an excellent job in making sure they are well looked after in any capacity and be there for them whenever they need them. My friends are great wives too, of course it goes both ways, and just for the record I've never, never, never heard any one of them complain about their spouses, well not to me anyway. Truth be told I pretty much hear singing of praises. I'm proud to say I have friends who are smart and educated enough to never just settle and looking at them they made great choices in their life partners, no choice was made out of desperation and it shows. It seems no matter what they have gone through or are currently going through it's definitely made easier by the fact that they have a very strong union and the undying love and support of one another.
These men are true blessings!!
Ladies you did great!!
Love you x
