Beyoncé wants everything, a Tony, an Oscar, to sing at President Obama's Inauguration [sorry Bey rumours are it's gone to Jennifer Hudson…again!!], and now she wants to play Wonder Woman.Well the posts have been flying 100+ on the forum I frequent on and my take is this:
I like to see the characters from pages of a book, cartoons and TV shows played by actors who look very much like the original characters. I do not as a black woman want to see a black woman in a role meant for a white woman. Wonder Woman was white and brunette. It's not about how far in the times we are, we do not need to have equal opportunities for everything, and Hollywood comic book adaptations being one of them.
Cast Brad Pitt or Edward Norton as Shaft and see how quickly we would kick up a stink. But it's all good on the western front for us when some are cheering for Team Beyoncé when she really wants the role as Wonder Woman. Beyoncé confirmed she also wanted to play Lois Lane, a role that went to Kate Bosworth. Black people are still mad about Elizabeth Taylor playing Cleopatra for goodness sake. People were also mad about Angelina Jolie playing the role of the Cuban American wife Mariane Pearl in the true story 'A Mighty Heart' about her reporter husband Daniel Pearl who was captured and killed in Pakistan. Some saying the role would have been a better fit for Halle Berry. Jolie even received death threats for taking on the role.
My point is I don't want to see Wolverine played by Tyrese, Superman played by Terrence Howard or Wonder Woman played by Beyoncé, especially when there are better actresses who look similar to the original character like Megan Fox, Kate Beckinsale, Angelina Jolie or even Rachel Weisz who would also do a better job as an actress. I personally hope the role is cast to somebody like Megan Fox [although I've read she's not going to play her]. She's hot right now, is young enough to play her and looks how Wonder Woman should look. White, Brunette and looks like her. People thought I was lying when Nicolas Cage was cast to play Superman 8 years ago, it was true but it ended up being shelved. I even heard he got paid regardless. And that's my point he's white, he was just wrong for the role, he looks nothing like Superman to even be considered in the first place.
If Beyoncé gets the role, the film will suck big time. DC comics have had a string of failures recently compared to rival Marvel and Beyoncé would really be doing them a disservice. A big disservice.
The likely winner of the role is apparently another Megan, Megan Gale [pictured left] , and it's getting very confusing as there maybe two Wonder Women in two different movies.

Justice League: Mortal [2011] a film to be released in the same year that brings together Superman [rumoured to be D.J. Cotrona] who??, Aquaman [rumoured to be Santiago Cabrera] who??, Batman [NOT to be Christian Bale and rumoured to be Armie Hammer] who??, Wonder Woman [rumoured to be Gale] who?? and The Flash [rumoured to be played by Adam Brody from the O.C.] more so what than who?? The cast line up looks budget and broke down.
And Compared to the Marvel plans to re-create the Avengers, characters like Iron Man are to be played by Robert Downey Junior and Don Cheadle who takes over the Terrence Howard role in Iron Man 2 before the Avenger movie comes out in 2011. Just for those 2 alone I am there.

The Avengers [Marvel] will spare no expense and have an A-List line up.
Wonder Woman [DC Comics], well female superhero movies usually fall flat anyway so whether it was made by Marvel or DC Comics is more than likely to bomb just because she's a woman.
The only way she will get the role is if they decide to do a WonderWoman Musical.
ReplyDeleteBey cannot act to save her life, she sucked in Austin Powers and even the MTV musical Carmen but did an above average job in Dreamgirls because it was mainly a musical. Beyonce is greedy she is addicted to the spotlight and reminds me of a younger version of Diana Ross who was miserable in her real life but found solace on stages. Beyonce thinks she has to set the fashion trend, music trend and Beauty trend for all girls aged from 4 to 49 but that is too much of a burden/task and she needs to sit down and have kids like Lauryn Hill before she breaks down. Life is not just a stage and besides i guess its lonely at the top because she doesnt have a rival even close to her league. Rihanna is talented but she is no Bey and that Baysian blood in her is too toxic for a crossover lol.
I pretty much feel the same way. I can only commend her for her drive, we all should have that, but her career is just so in your face. I'm tired of the albums being released one after the other with stupid titles and releasing 1500 songs at once. She cannot act, every movie she pretty much plays a singer, a sign that Hollywood are telling you that you cannot act.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny you mention Rhianna Kanye West made a comment saying that Rhianna was the best thing to happen to Beyoncé, meaning although she's not exceptionally talented, she's very popular and had a great year, she's making her step up or at least try to step up her game.
I don't know about Beyoncé, if Mariah can fall off the popularity trail, then so can Bey I don't think she can last forever though.
