The one time I may just applaud Beyoncé, I heard this song and saw the simple yet fierce video for this a while back, but to be honest I was so taken away by the dancing I wasn't even listening to the lyrics.
So there are ladies cheering behind their computer screens and blogging about the song and I'm thinking OK what is so great about this song. I Google the lyrics and I'm there nodding in agreement.
Simply put, they dated for x amount of years, he steps out on her then breaks up. He sees her getting attention from another man then has the nerve to get mad about it.
"If you liked it then you should have put a ring on it
If you liked it then you should have put a ring on it
Don't be mad once you see that he want it
If you liked it then you should have put a ring on it"
How are you going to get mad about it when you had your chance for so long. I'm sure there are many ladies that can relate. I'm sorry but she's not lying about anything in the lyrics of that song.
Just want to add, you see how women can get their point across in music about their dissatisfaction with men without resorting to being continually derogatory. You know if it was the other way around bitch would have been flung into those lyrics somewhere, maybe even ho and then some.

I know that's right. Men in general have gotten very lazy in relationships and often get mad when a woman decides to move on.
ReplyDeleteLike you said, You was more into the dance than the lyrics and most people are into Sasha Fierce's dance and not the message and honestly judging by most relationships here in the U.S their aint much moving on. Its more like lurking around and stalking. If they sincerely listen to the message instead of dancing and act upon it there will be more healthier relationships and also more respectful as opposed to the hooking up ,bust it baby type that is all around us nowadays.
