To Bey Or Not To Bey...That Is The Question?

Just got an alert from Ticktmaster. Tomorrow at 9am Beyoncé tickets go on sale for a May 09 concert. I'm not a fan of Beyoncé I like the few club tunes and such, but she's not an artist I'd say is particularly deep enough for me. I can take her or leave her to be honest. Like Cassie albeit more talented vocally.

The thing is this girl can perform the shit out of a show and I can't lie I'm actually intrigued to go and see her 'extra' performances rather than remaining comfortable and settling for my uber faves like Mariah and Prince to roll around once every 5 years or so before going to another live gig. I did say to myself going forward I will check more artists in concert whether I like 1 tune or 10 albums worth of material. Plus my 30th birthday celebrations start Jan 1st 2009 [even though my birthday is July 18th, I'm celebrating for the whole year!].
I need every day and month filled with a little something to look forward to, so far May is empty, so I'll see what seats I can get at 9am tomorrow. If I can't there will be no love lost. On the other hand if it were a Mariah or Prince concert I'd be mortified.

  1. I remember having that issue a couple of years ago when Robin Thicke was opening for Beyonce and me being a big fan try to imagine going to see him and dealing with the crowd of Beyonce fans , Old and young, black and white and ghetto and bourgeois and came to the conclusion that i just couldnt do it. Now i will agree that she is the greatest performer out there and will give you your money's worth but i waited a few months and Robin Thicke opened for India Arie and it was worth every dime except for the unusual high number of 1st,2nd and 3rd generation lesbian fans that it drew lol.

  2. Is India a lesbian or just that a barrage of her fans are?

  3. I think she is straight but just happens to attract that earthy lesbian type.

  4. She's probably a lesbian...sorry for prying in on that convo. Anyway, I agree, Beyonce is not deep, but what's so deep about Mariah??? ( No disrespect intended)

  5. No disprespect taken. Short mini dresses aside. A lot of her BEST work is the unreleased stuff, the material non-fans will never get to hear. Her earlier work is much better but I most certainly admire her hard work. She's got guts and determination. When most girls were at the mall as a teen she was writing songs and laying down demos in the studio. Aside from the cover versions Mariah has penned or co-penned ALL of her tracks, she has producer, arranger, musician to her credits not just a singer which a lot of people think she is. She's on that track from the words on paper to the production in the studio. For me songs like Fly like a bird, my saving grace, I am free, petals, the wind, looking in etc show a different side to Mariah than the Herve Leger and platform heel wearing one. What I love about her music when you're in that low low place, need a little spiritual uplifting, mourning the loss of a loved one, in love, getting over a break-up, or getting ready for a night out at the club there's always a 'from the heart' tune I can throw on of hers.

  6. Thank you for the explanation. Haven't heard alot of those songs by her. I agree that her early work is better. They should probably giver her a break. I tell ya, this world makes a living off of exploiting people during their time of pain and need....so sad.
