Birthday Dinner #3 - IS BACK ON!

No no no.

I have not lost my damn mind. I have not reneged and re-booked the Lobster Pot. I am NOT a FOOL!!

However next Saturday is the weekend I have my little cousin Ronni. We are going to see Monsters V Aliens in 3D and I did say Nandos after the cinema, but Nandos really doesn't get me going on the excitement scale.

Why should celebrating the whole of my year for my 30th have to stop because I'm not talking to **rolls eyes**? Shoot I'll take my favourite girl out to dinner. She loves food, is well mannered and has no problems in restaurants surrounded by grown folks.

Hmmm let me see what Toptable offers are on close by.

And yes my black ass will STILL be going to Vegas in June!!

Birthday Gift #2 - Milstan Irons

OK, so it's not a typical present, present. But I figure I'd buy myself something I could use other than a new pair of shoes.

Anyone that knows me knows, I know a fair about haircare etc and take care of it myself from cutting, colouring, relaxing to braiding. And flat ironing too. These ceramic irons are bloody awful. I don't care what new one comes out, none of them are great for my hair. I preferred the old school hair tools that have gone way out of fashion. I thought about hair care back in the day and the girls at school who had healthy long hair, marcel irons or pressing combs were usually the hair choice before ceramic irons were ever thought of. Shiny and straight. With me ceramic irons not that straight and quite dull. I've had enough of my hair snagging in these things. I've tried two. I'm through. I'm going back to basics.
I stumbled across Milstan flat irons, watched You Tube videos as well as scouring the forum from some people who had used them. Those that had, loved them. There were a lot of women scared literally to use any type of marcel or flat iron that didn't come with a plug.

**Twists corner of mouth**

Ummmm I don't call myself the research queen for nothing. Had they taken less time to be scared and sourced the net, primarily Google, they'd find that you can actually get heat controlled stoves for irons. But whatever, that is their choice to be cautious. It's cool.
I've been using a hot pressing comb since I was about 14 doing my own hair on the stove itself, so have no worries or issues in these types of irons. That coupled with almost a decade of online hair care knowledge I should be no more worse off than a ceramic iron user.
So the feather flat and Slither iron are my gifts to myself for February. I toyed with the idea of shoes, sneaker, sunglasses but I buy that for myself anytime and to be honest the thought of getting the Milstan irons excited me more. So I'm going with that. I posted a You Tube video in the link below so you can see the irons at work. And if you watch the video long enough you'll see why the slither iron is being bought. For the hairline and kitchen areas this iron is perfect to catch all of those tiny hairs you can't catch with a ceramic iron.

Milstan Feather Flat and Slither Iron Video

You can check out the whole Milstan range here if you're interested or type in Milstan on You Tube and check out his video tutorials on the different irons.
If I ever decided to go back ultra short again, I'd definitely purchase his [Stan Nash] irons from the The "Master Short Hair Iron" Collection.

**GASP** If I was all for cosmetic surgery and had a low self esteem [which I'm not and don't have] I'd get those boobies...but I digress.

I'm not going to relax and flat iron my hair again until June, I'm currently braided, well kinky twists, and giving my hair a rest, but you'll know I'll post pictures and my results as soon as I use them.

The Feather Flat & Slither Irons are $79.99 each.

Time's Up

I've been patient. I've vented. I asked time and time again. I've received nothing in terms of effort. I am tired of asking.

I'm trying to put together a birthday book, think of it like a high school style year book, documenting 2009 for the 30th Birthday as a keepsake. I suggested the idea of doing a scrap type book and getting two copies published with pictures of what was happening, what we did etc in 2009 as well as on our birthdays.

Well after birthday dinner #1 which was on January 31st I was up until 5:38am [yes 5:38am] that very night until February 1st getting this book started. I e-mailed it over for my friend to get started on that very morning via e-mail. Sent a text to let them know I've e-mailed it over. I've made a few calls since then only specifically to say get it back to me so I can edit it and add pictures and then some. I've been told "yes" and "OK" merely to be pacified it seems. I'm not buying the "I'm busy" excuse, or "I've forgotten" or "I've had a lot on". I'm so busy [outside of the office] I'm having to actually do a month long project to organise all my shit over the course of the year for long term and short term goals. No one knows busy like me. Trust! [although there are some I'm sure]. So if I can do mine, they can do theirs.

I am NOT asking anymore. My stress levels don't need to be exhausted and I shouldn't have to ask more than once. I think a month is adequate time to open a word document, add the necessary text and send it back to me. Realistically it should take an hour at most. I've stressed the importance of having each month done on the book before the next month starts, so I'm not stressing in December trying to do a massive project. And now January and February entries are done on my part I've had nothing back from them. Sorry, my black ass isn't doing it. I asked more than once, and that is that.

No more of this bending for folks who seem to not be able to hear me when I speak. It's blatant disregard and lack of respect. I give people time. I give people notice. I'm not the type of person to do that to other people. Shoot, if I go three hours without returning an e-mail I'm racked with guilt. A bad habit I know, but I like to get back to people and treat people how I want to be treated and not keep them waiting or at least being apologetic if I do.

So what am I going to phone for again today? "Can you please add your parts and send it back to me please?" Only to be told "OK" and receive nada? My time is precious and it's being wasted. Part of this little project is being wasted in me waiting to add her parts to what I'm continuously adding onto.

I was waiting literally two days before the Birthday lunch #2 to find out where we were going and at what time when we'd discussed this from December 2008. My March and May restaurant choices have already been booked. This person organises for a living and can't even be organised with a friend. I'm sure deadlines would be met when it comes to her career, and the same dedication should follow through in their personal lives. The fact that this is a continuing issue used to pose a problem with me, but no more. I need joy and peace in my life on every level and those that can't come through, simply get left. *Holds hand up* I see this as the equivalent of being ignored, which is actually what it is. So based on this book AND the What Would You Do If…? Blog from yesterday.

I'M O.U.T.

It's been eradicated, therefore no stress, no more venting. See why I don't need a therapist? I get all my shit out, and what's not benefiting me or my needs, needs to be given the elbow. Not talking about the person, but this lack of effort.

I'll do me.

We're nearly 30 years old. There is no excuse. Fix up! Cha! I'll get vex with myself if I don't follow through. I'm tired of being disappointed by other people. So my book WILL get done and I've OFFICIALLY bowed out of the event. Thing is, they don't know [unless they read the blog]. Not being mean by not saying anything, but I think it's best not to mention it as it will cause an issue. I have no time for issues or potential unnecessary drama. I've advised that "not every fight needs to be fought." So for once I'm taking my own advice and keeping my cool. And most importantly please myself.

All this waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting on people. No more! Respect me. Respect my time.

What A Lovely Weekend!

Oooh it was eventful. I spent a lot and ate a lot that's for sure. I managed to work right up until 8pm [the same time we were told to get to Carbon] and was umming and ahhing about going. Part of me wanted to go home and just clean the house, get organised, another part of me wanted to have a few drinks, shake my ass and literally shake off the week and the mini-drama from Thursday.

So whilst I'm working/e-mailing my friend and flabbergasted at just how much she gets approached and goes on dates, I'm whining that I have to travel 5,000 miles before anyone approaches me [it never happens in London for me]. I'm packing up my things ready to go. Just me and two others on the derelict floor doing the late shift till 11pm. I hear my name whispered from behind me and I swear for a split second I thought I heard Jesus call my name. I got shook just for a second. I turn my black ass around and find the cutest guy in the whole of the company [in my opinion] trying to catch my attention. Poor thing, he went out for a few drinks and couldn't contain himself and had to tell me with his Dutch couraged up self that he likes me...OK awkward moment.

#1 never listen to a man under the influence, even if slightly, although...
#1.5 a lot of truth can be exposed under the influence, but...
#2 he's involved [no go area]
#3 this is the workplace. I've done the whole [real extra] flirting and outside the office communication before. **Looks at ones self in disgust**

It's sweet he felt the need to stand there gushing and complimenting me and telling me the hard faced LondonDiva was not at all that comes across when he speaks to me etc etc etc. I told him he won't remember this on Monday, but I'll e-mail him from across the office to remind him just how he embarrassed himself. And why do guys feel the need to tell me this like they've just discovered the Holy Grail, that "I know under that tough exterior you're really a softy." Ummm I know that and have no trouble in telling folks. Typical Cancer hard exterior soft on the inside. Oh I am sweet, kind, caring, loving the works. But cross me and oh my goodness, I do not play. I don't mince my words, will tell you about yourself and threaten you with an ass whoopin if need be. Don't confuse the situation. Piss me off and you better find the emergency room pronto! But I may, just may, give you a hug when I've calmed down in about 3.5 years. I hold a grudge like a mutha!

After that I hot foot it over to Carbon and get a lil tipsy. I decided tonight was the night I was going to have my first shot of Patrón [coffee flavoured]. HELL I needed a shot of something. I don't do wine or beer. Spirits and hard liquor is more my thing. £14 for a shot WHAT????? Fashogi told me it's $35 a bottle in the US. PISSED is not even the word...

AWW HELL NO *just checked online* that Café Patron is £26 online **whips out debit card, but puts it back after remembering all of the weekend spending** And you know at £14 a shot that damn shot glass is in my kitchen right now].

Don't ever come in my house looking for wine, you won't find any. I like drinks that BEFORE you drink them you know will F you up. I'm prepped with Rum. I was prepared for Patrón. Wine is like a mugger down a dark street, just creeps up on you from behind and whoops your ass. I don't like wine cause it deceives you. Rum tells you straight. Tek tomorrow off, if you drink mi, mi will drunk you!! I feel violated after wine. Like a cheap one night stand. Waking up with pure regret in the morning.

Myers Jamaican Rum and Champagne are the only alcoholic beverage you'll find in here AND YOU BETTER BE SOMEBODY TO BE DRINKING THAT [my stash] IN MY HOUSE. I know NOTHING about wine and don't confess to, that's why I don't drink it and as mentioned above. I have champagne preferences and will only drink Myers Jamaican Rum. Finding that in the UK **shakes head** is tough in the US it's in practically every bar. I can only find it in the black area off licences. **Whispers** I'll be adding that Patrón to the list now of home alcoholic beverage staples, and Fash upon your recommendation I WILL BE trying the Silver.

But....that [shot] plus a glass of this and a few sips of that from other people [on an empty stomach] and I was well on my way to having a good night. I stayed till about 2am and caught a ride with a friend's friend back home. Come 3:30am after some hot chocolate and soup I was 2 inches of my forehead away from the floor asleep whilst [sorta] watching Girlfriends. I didn't realise I could contort my body like that sitting up. I had a great time getting a tad wasted [I never usually condone it but I usually save the drinking for vacations. I only drink around people I know and where I never have to make it home alone on public transport]. I danced till I hurt, and just had a great time. I'm glad I made the effort to go out rather than go home. There's birthday drinks at work this week. I have a rule. I don't do drink with the folks at work. I spend 40-50 hours with them a week. That is enough time around non-black folks. If I have time to be socialising with them I can be using that time to socialise with friends/family that I don't see as much. I may make the effort this time. I said may!

Saturday was a two meal affair. For those that don't know I hit 30 in July, and my friend in May. We're celebrating the birthday in Vegas on June 12th, buying a gift for ourselves every month and dining out once a month for the whole of 2009. Basically we're celebrating this new milestone for the whole year. We didn't make the most of 18 or 21 and we sure as hell aren't waiting till 40 for the next biggie!

Saturday was Mrs H's turn for the restaurant pick. 140 Park Lane...yes that's the name of the restaurant at the Marriott on Park Lane. I ALWAYS check out the menu before I go and I wasn't impressed by the choices. Although that was Friday when I looked, this was Saturday I'd woken up totally mash up slightly hung over and had no time for breakfast, had to shower, get ready and go. Thank God Saturday was sunny because I needed my sunglasses for something other than sun [feeling bruck], and a chance to wear my new Fendi's [and low and behold Mrs H was wearing hers too]. I opted for smart casual, silk Vanessa Riley blouse, my favourite slim Pia jeans, cropped cape jacket, long leather gloves, Betsey Johnson red patent leather tote with gold accents, tan suede flats with gold chain accents and a HANGOVER. It was too early to dress like I was going out to dinner, but decided on a Saturday casual-Esq attire instead. I did the heels the night before and the thighs were not up to it today. It seems like they weren't in flats either. I was hurting. Mrs H was on the same tip. She too had, smart jeans, silk shirt, cape jacket, and long leather gloves. As much as I wasn't feeling good I made sure I looked good and must have made an impression as a guy came up to me and asked me if I was a model. I am tooting my own horn.... Compliments are rare in London, and if you get one, blog about it, just to remind yourself it actually did happen!

Lunch was better than I thought. I ordered the wrong main though and should have gone with the seared venison. Mrs H did, but my starter crab and prawn cakes and my dessert Banana parfait were divine. I even ate the leafy salad ensemble on the plate with the crab and prawn cakes. It was drizzled in the most fabulous tasting dressing I've ever tasted. And if anyone knows me. I don't do salads or leafy green things. I would definitely go back for this alone. This is a restaurant that fools you with the portions, you know don't look that big but when you're done you're actually full like you ate KFC, McDonald's AND Burger King. I had that hangover hunger so I was HUNGRY!!! and was still full. Lord it was 3:30 by the time we finished and I had a dinner reservation at 7:30 for a family dinner at Beauberry House How in the hell was I to manage another three courses after this? I was full to the brim. I had pretty much, no time to do anything. I got home just after 5pm and my sister was coming for me at 7pm. Luckily come 7pm it felt like I was already beginning to digest the three course lunch.

Beauberry House was lovely. We had a really nice evening for my dad'd 75th. I love a nice dinner out with the family. It was the first time dad told us all about him coming over on the ship from Jamaica in 1959 on the Begonia and his partying days in London in the 60's. My dad was a baller back in the day. He was earning some serious money as a painter. He's never claimed benefit the whole of his working life. He came here to work and as soon as he arrived he got a job. I asked him why were tradesmen in dire need. He said the English people were too lazy, and it seems to this day nothing has changed. Look at all the Polish and Eastern Europeans that come here to do construction and other skilled labour jobs in half the time, a better job and less money than the English. Imagine that at the time rent for the room was £2 a week and my dad was earning that per hour. Houses were around £500, so it gives you an idea of in comparison just how much my dad was earning. I mean say your rent is £200 a week today how many people can say they earn the same in an hour as their rent is a week? Now I know why that house we lived in was so damn big. About 5 stories and how many bedrooms I don't know. Gwan pops!!!!

The food was good but I'm not sure if it was a case of I was already stuffed from lunch that I wasn't feeling my next three courses. Again I ordered the wrong main dish. I should have gone with the Blackened Miso Cod my sister had. Why does that always happen? You order but want the other person's dish? I couldn't even finish my champagne [which was VERY nice so much so I'm going to call the restaurant and find out just what that was and buy a few bottles] and desert so my mother gladly had that. She didn't miss a beat consuming my leftovers.

Man, my mother is real stush and very outspoken. She took offence to the woman next to us listening to her conversation about our late uncle and asked loud enough to hear if she'd like to hear some more. Oh lord that didn't stop her from commenting that the woman looked like she was dressed for Hollywood and the man came out in a shambolic looking sweater. My sister leaned over to me and said "now I know where we get it from." My eyes widened and indeed I was looking at myself in my mother. Sis was too. But it's not what she says it's how she says it which is so like us. Makes the comment ever so slightly whilst gracefully sipping on champagne. My mother is a trip. I'm trying to help my typically Jamaican father order from the menu. He hasn't got a clue about French or Japanese food. Words like Miso and Tempura are foreign to my dad. So every time I mention a dish

"Roy doesn't eat crab."
"Order the Salmon Roy you like that."
"No don't have beef we're having that tomorrow."

**Insert dad rolling his eyes and me trying to hold it down**

Of course after 28 years of marriage, dad has tuned my mother out and orders what he wants. [It was the salmon though] but it was his choice which was most important. I love my mum, but damn she is hard work, even when ordering a meal.

I took my main course home and finished that for breakfast. And as usual it always tastes better the next day. Service was slow though, that and no balsamic vinegar with the Olive oil for my bread. WHAT!!!! It's a good job I had my fix at the Marriott then. Balsamic vinegar and Olive Oil is a must have for me before I get stuck into a meal. I'm a lil piggy, what can I say. **makes note pick up fresh FANCY bread and balsamic vinegar tomorrow. None of this sliced Kingsmill lark.** I will eat it all night if I have to. I can't get enough. Plus I'm a carb fiend!!

Everyone headed back to my house and low and behold my dad was sick in my bathroom. He mixed his drinks at dinner. Lord Jesus! As much as I was concerned about my dad I thought please, not on the carpet. Luckily he didn't. Thank God! So when they all left just after midnight I called after 1am and asked my mum how my dad was. She said he was chilling downstairs in his robe with a Whisky. I had to laugh and shake my head at the same time. My goodness my father sure does love a drink.

Sunday I left that day to do everything I should have done, you know, laundry, cleaning. ME time! I wasn't as tired as I thought I would be after all that. I could have easily gone out again, but decided against it. We're one man down in the office this week and I know I have a busy one ahead of me. I gotta get my head down and get on. Although you know I'll always find time to blog [I hope], update my Facebook status on the Blackberry, and e-mail a friend or two [just a not as much as I'd like to]. As much as I'm going to make it in early tomorrow, I'm going to have a past 1am bedtime and watch this DVD rental. I don't even remember adding it to my list. It's called Waz and looks to be on the gore tip.

Sweet Lord have mercy!! What is it with me and the desire to watch gory films on a Sunday anyway?

All in all a good weekend was had. The weather is warming up a tad, it's getting brighter so hopefully there will be more of these to come!

Birthday Dinner #2 - 140 Park Lane & Beauberry House

Yes bloggers. 2 dinners in one day.

The 21st is the date of our official birthday dinner #2 which Mrs H has picked for a 1pm luncheon at 140 Park Lane in Mayfair. And at 7:30pm me, my sister, mum and dad are celebrating our lovely daddy's 75th birthday [Can you believe his momma is STILL alive?] at Beauberry House. Of course mum and dad DO NOT pick up the tab when we take them out. Me and my sis will be footing the bill. That's how we do. You raised us, we look after and treat you as much as we can.

Beauberry House looks beautiful, it's set in a Mansion in West Dulwich. A strange cuisine combo of Japanese and French. I love both so it's all good. Both restaurants are 50% off offers on Toptable

"If Philippe Stark and Jay Gatsby had a lovechild, it would be Beauberry House restaurant in Dulwich. Set in a grand Georgian mansion surrounded by acres of lush green lawn, Beauberry House is a breath of fresh air for stressed-out Londoners. The elegant dining area – aptly named the White Room – is a zen haven filled with businessmen and chic media types. With oak flooring, white walls and stunning white chandelier, the chic interior is complimented by the excellent service and the friendly sommelier. The caramalised black cod with miso melts in your mouth, and the pan-fried scallops with cauliflower purée and vanilla foam are superb. The presentation and atmosphere of Beauberry House is faultless, and the bar and private dining room offer bespoke party solutions."

Birthday Gift #2 - I'm Stuck

I have no idea what to get myself this month.

As far as I'm concerned all of my gifts have to be practical. There are no rules except I buy myself a birthday gift each month.

I want the Feather Flat and Slither Milstan Irons. Which also means I'll buy myself a heat controlled stove. I'm done with ceramics. I'm going back to old school methods.

Then there are the Reebok New York Freestyle kicks, I've wanted for the longest.

Then there are these Bvlgari sunglasses. I already have the 651B model which I love and want these ones as well.

Now whilst writing this blog I stumbled across a celeb sunglasses site. I want the glasses for the glasses, not because the celebs are wearing them [although no can wear sunglasses better my girl Mimi], now this has made my Feb choice that bit harder. Grrrrr!!

And she just so happens to be wearing the Bvlgari sunglasses I want 8016B. These came out last summer. All the better for me which means they aren't in. But these sunglasses don't date anyway, and I don't wear sunglasses for a season. Unlike last years ever so popular Prada's, no one was wearing Bvlgari around here so they wouldn't even have a clue when it came out let alone the model name. I really try to steer clear from things in fashion/trends and go with what suits me, and which I know I can wear in 10 years time without looking like a fashion reject. I'm sure I'll be blessed with a daughter who will be calling these vintage one day and stealing them from my collection.

Mimi workin it

Dior

Valentino

Tom Ford

Marc Jacobs

Dior

Salvatore Ferragamo

I want those Salvatore Ferragamo ones **SWOON**

Yuh Nah Easy!!

{JA speak for 'You're not playin'}

My friend makes me laugh like crazy. I called her this evening to discuss Vegas plans and asked her if she'd bought herself a birthday present for January yet? She said she ordered it yesterday.

"So what did you get?"

She replies ever so calmly "A 40 inch plasma TV!"

Only Mrs H!! I love it! I was like "damn that makes my necklace look kinda dry", but luckily we've never been the female friends to compete with one another, only congratulate. I love it when she looks fly and vice versa, and that's how it should be. You know if you're doing well, get that great paying job, can travel where and when you want, buy whatever there are some people who you feel are secretly hating, can't be happy for you or even utter a compliment in your direction in all the years you've known them? Well she's not like that and neither am I!! We don't attempt to outdo each other either.

I can't be mad at her, like she said "I've always wanted to watch TV on a screen big enough without my glasses!" I love my necklace and I'm loving her treating herself, from what she's been through she bloody deserves it. My TV is coming this year but not just yet.

I can't wait to see what she gets in February.

Birthday Gift #1 - Swarovski 'Donatella' Necklace

I just got back from Regent Street after getting myself my first of twelve birthday gifts for 09. You must think I'm joking! Oh I am deadly serious about making my 30th and 2009 my very own in any way possible.

So I hot foot it down to my favourite jewellery store Swarovski, and am not that impressed by the sale. I love their rings and the one I wanted wasn't in the store and the other one wasn't marked down. I hate buying full price. I always come away fulfilled after a good markdown.

Luckily I can shop like a speed skater, I hate to dilly dally [and mainly shop online to avoid the slow ass fools in the store, so I scanned the store with a quickness then did the once over just one more time. And there they were, two necklaces marked down to a ridiculous price. Totally over the top and gaudy but in a chic kind of way.

I opted for this one. Was £280 marked down to £70. Online it's only been marked down to £174

"Happy Birthday to me!
Happy Birthday to me!
Happy Birthday LondonDivaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Happy Birthday to me!"

Birthday Dinner #1 - Chino Latino

My friend gave me first choice for the restaurant this month. And I chose Chino Latino, which is located at the Riverbank Park Plaza Hotel at Embankment for January 31st. I've never been there before, but the reviews look great, and aside from Big Easy on King's Road [as I love Lobster] I never go a restaurant more than once. London has too much choice for restaurants that I always like to go somewhere new, nothing to do with some kind of snobbery with regard to dining. However one that I would go back to is Awana on Sloane Avenue, I loved it from the dark décor to the food. A mango juice is about a fiver though so steer clear of the soft drinks and just drink alcohol for your monies worth, unless you're driving.

"Chinos is a modern Pan Asian cuisine restaurant with a Latin cocktail bar. The menu ranges form sushi, dim sum, tempura, meat and seafood and includes mouth watering dishes such as jungle curry with lobster and scallop, seared beef with oriental mushroom; balsamic teriyaki, there is something to tempt everyone.

The place itself is uber trendy; the décor gunmetal grey, crimson and cream and fashionably under-lit perfecting the art of the sophisticated and cosmopolitan dining experience."

And of course I'll be coming back with a review on the 31st!!

Happy Birthday To Me!!!

On July 18th I celebrate my 30th birthday, but decided from last year along with my friend to celebrate it as soon as it hit January 1st and for the whole year.

I have no idea why a lot of people turn foolish and afraid of approaching and becoming the big 3-0, I personally am looking forward to it and far from scared or afraid. You can say you're 21 as much as your like, you're still old as hell so why not embrace it. And those types of people, especially women get on my last nerve hiding or denying their ages.

So this year I'm going to be 'extra' and very Diva-ish with it. I'll be buying myself presents, a nice one every month [today Swarovski]. Me and my friend who's also doing the same will be dining out for a birthday dinner every month at a nice restaurant. Vacations, the ballet in February, the official family birthday dinner somewhere very plush and the official Vegas trip on June 19th slap bang in the middle of our birthdays, hers is May 20th, mine is July 18th. And whatever else we can conjure up as we go along!

I'm only going to be turning 30 once, and yes as I've said before life is too short. So rather than cram everything into just one night spreading it over the course of a year seems more appropriate and why not. Life should be about celebrating it to the fullest and especially birthdays. You've been blessed to see in another year!!

If you have any ideas of what the next 11 self-giving gifts should be then don't hesitate to let me know.

Happy Birthday and Happy 2009!!
