Let's Talk About Sex...

They knew exactly what they were thinking when they chose that paddle!
...err how about we don't.

I am far from being a prude, trust me on that one, but it seems like in this day and age it's the 'fashion' to talk about your sex life on Twitter/Facebook or any other place where people [may] pay attention to you.

I've spoken with friends about these 'Twitter antics', I've also tweeted the odd @ reply or DM [Direct Message] to other people on Twitter about the same said thing and not a lot of people are impressed by it or the usernames who feel the need to constantly chat about it.

If it's not that, it's people on BBM [Blackberry Messenger] posting sexual picture after sexual picture, or telling us in their status they want, are about to, or have just had some [sex].

I mean WHAT THE F*** IS THIS SERIOUSLY?

I equate this to one of the highest forms of attention seeking f**kery. Well you got my attention, I find you pathetic!

Moving on...

Some people are on a tip that they feel the more they talk about sex, or seem open about sex that they are some type of liberal sexpert, and anyone that doesn't agree or like what they do is a prude bordering on being a nun.

It's not about that at all, it's more a case of:
  • We don't want to know about your sex life as it's extremely boring to us, and quite frankly we aren't impressed.
  • You may be getting some, but we don't believe you're any good at it, based on your incessant bragging.
  • Whether some of us are saving it for marriage or having sex outside of marriage, some of us realise the IMPORTANCE of keeping a vast majority of our relationships/unions PRIVATE, and don't see the need for it to be cheapened in 140 characters or less for strangers to know about.
  • We respect our partners and don't feel the need to chat our business which is essentially their business too.
  • We just don't give a f***!!

Carrie Bradshaw - Sex & The City
As wonderful as Sex & The City was, I think some women got the wrong end of the stick [no pun intended] 6 seasons and 2 movies later and tried to become their very own Samantha Jones, or chat their arses off like Carrie and use Twitter and Facebook as their very own sex column. It doesn't work ladies. Running your mouth doesn't equate to being sexually liberated. We CHOSE to park our asses in front of the TV for 22 minute episodes, and paid to see the movies voluntarily. When I sit down in the morning and go through my timeline, I don't want to get visuals of your boney arse bonking your boyfriend, talking about how sore you are, or making references to semen whilst eating my bagel.
Sex is intimate. Save that intimate part of your relationship for your damn selves and don't be so quick to pick up your phone and tweet that element of it to a 657 strangers. We're not impressed, we actually think you have little to no shame to be quite honest. Even the ones probably egging you on to continue talking about it think the same and just wanna be 'all up in your business'. And speaking of being 'all up in your business', if you're going to be sharing those intimate parts of your relationship with strangers, please don't get mad if people ever ask you questions pertaining to your relationship. After talking about your sex life, are you really in a position to be demanding respect for your privacy?

I think not!

Ladies THEY'RE BACK! Sex and The City 2 [Extended Trailer]

I AM ECSTATIC!!!

My three favourite middle aged fashionistas in all of their Manhattan glory are back. Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha Jones. So fly I give her a double name mention!

In this long awaited sequel, to the long awaited first movie, in which we waited four long years for, two long years have passed and the girls have adopted a talking Afghan Hound pet dog. It even gets in on the fashion, travels and romance.

You know worldwide the cinemas are going to be RAM PACKED with women and gay men everywhere. I plan on seeing it more than once at the movies. I don't care if it is awful...it won't be! I just know it won't.

Just how fabulous did Samantha look in her red Lady Gagaish shoulder spiked dress?

Why are folks SO MAD that Miley Cyrus has a cameo in the movie? It's called a cameo idiots, she's not headling in the movie. Cool your breeze and be grateful it's not Geri Halliwell again!! Both Kim Catrall and Samantha Jones as two separate entities were mortified by that so-called 'acting.'

Is it me or did the trailer look like they could squeeze in enough material for a 3rd, and dare I sadly say it final instalment?

Watch a ton of women save their shekels in order to head to Abu Dhabi after this movie hits theatres. Let's hope you got Samantha's money for a suite like that.

**Cue Trailer....and ACTION!**

From a LondonDiva to a.......Diva ???

Yes I know I've mentioned the show umpteen times, but so what, I can relate to certain elements of it as can many other women. I'm talking about Sex & The City. I made it through to the last episode again [the 2nd time around] where Carrie returns to New York from Paris rescued by Big [who we now know after 6 seasons as John] and back into the arms of her 4 girlfriends and it got me thinking.

I must admit I was slightly put off before I've even began, at the prospect of going overseas and experiencing a different type of life outside of the London one. Then a reality check pulls me back in and I'm reminded I'd be busy and not waiting on a man to finish his light project at a Paris museum, and roaming the streets trying to find things to do to occupy my day. I'd be out there wherever it maybe travelling and or working.

If Carrie was to fast forward a few years into 2008, she may have logged onto the Meet Up website and seen what was going on in and around Paris for bored and single Americans in the city so it wouldn't have been such a disappointment on the social level for her as an 'American Girl in Paris'.

With that said, when it comes down to it there really is no excuse to be alone or even lonely when taking that huge step and relocating somewhere else in the world, whether that be for a few months or a few years.

Millions of people travel with nothing but their possessions and their lonesome selves, and at times the thought of doing something is far scarier than actually doing it. I did say a few days ago, and quoting Eleanor Roosevelt "do something everyday that scares you." The thought of a temporary move even for a few months scares me, but I feel it's something that I need to do [even if it's just once] to say I've done it and not let it be a part of a "what if?" lifestyle.

When I talk to friends about whether it would ever be an option for them to ever up and leave London, I hear a lot of the same. I'm close to my mum and my friends are here.

Me: [Blank stare]

OK, I'm in exactly the same boat but not for a minute are my friends and family, [who I may also add are living their own lives for themselves], going to keep me here and experiencing life and breaking free from the London monotony just because they are based here. I would never do anything or go anywhere. Playing it safe is not really for me. I couldn't stay here because my parents, sister and best friends are here. Would I miss them? Of course I would, but my reality is I rarely see them everyday anyway. I e-mail and talk on the phone a lot more than I'm in physical contact so nothing really changes [except my location] should I be away overseas. In addition to that we have web cams, Instant messenger, social networks like Facebook and MySpace, free calls over the Internet, text messaging, media messaging which bridges the gap and takes the edge off of missing your people, so it's not as hard as it could have been 10 or even 20 years ago. It's not like the pen pal days where it was paper and a stamp and waiting 2 weeks for a response. Of course there are limitations like not being able to dress up and meet your girls for a drink or go to a bar. But there are planes and passports and new friendships to form. Nothing will ever replace my girls, but there's nothing evil about adopting some new ones along the way and building new real-life social networks. If it can work for my girl J in Chicago, then it can work with friendships and relationships only if you're committed in the first place to making it work.

Luckily I've never been one to put my life on hold because of other people and have no desire to use friends and family as an excuse just to 'deal' with a city I don't have much love for. The world is a big place and life is too short to just sit and wonder about it. I want to be able to live in that wonderment. So whether it be Sydney, Singapore, USA, Malaysia, Dubai or some other place, hopefully whichever corners of globe me and my girls end up in we'll be happy, and at the end of the day that's all that matters. Plus it will always give us an excuse to travel.

The Weekend Was a Great One!

A lil booze, high heels, handbags, and some dancing, made for a great weekend. Throw in some lovely London weather, rest n relaxation and it was a real treat.

Friday, the night out at Guanabara was fantastic. I didn't expect to have such a great time. In fact I expected to be in a pissy mood, but Friday was just what I needed to lift my spirits and give the middle finger to a not so great week. Catching up with MB was great who let me in on his Australian travels and told me what his experiences were like living and working in Sydney and thoroughly recommended it [especially as a black woman] coming from a black man. I told him I don't know of anybody who is black from London who has lived and worked in Oz whether long or short term, and he told me that's my he wanted to do it. I'm going to a relocating seminar for people in my industry for Sydney, Australia on October 1st so am really looking forward to hearing what it's all about. My plan initially would be 3 months minimum then spend that time afterwards travelling a bit in the Far East, seeing more of Oz and New Zealand. Coming back to London and if I like it that much go back again for another stint. I'm more drawn to Oz than I am Dubai, and on top of that the Australian and Far East is flourishing in the Banking industry, they don't even know about no damn credit crunch over there from what MB was saying. It seems that it's the UK and US that are hard done by at the moment.

I used this opportunity at Guanabara to get to know my Miss D's new beau J, and he's a really nice guy. And I heard from Miss D that he said he thought I was nice but a lil [now what was the word] scary and/or intimidating. Is it the shoes? because in a pair of heels sistah girl is at 6ft or is it the face? He has a good head on his shoulders and I can tell he genuine and decent. Not as nerdy as she described. Thank God it was nice talking to a black man that wasn't reeling off the typical London and UK jargon with the likes of "ya get me", "innit doe" and "fa real fa real". My friends know how to pick em. Although she was not, and has never asked for my approval as she's more than capable, he gets a thumbs up from me.

The whole crowd, those who I already knew and those who I'd only met that night, everyone just had on their 'lovely vibe' hats on Friday. I managed through all that Brazilian music, tipsy on 4 alcoholic beverages [and I drink so so rarely] I managed to successfully talk to Miss D's sisters man H, about trading the Forex regardless of the economic climate. We had a good convo about making money and just talking about social [black] issues and relationships. Always good to get a black man's perspective on things whether you agree with what they have to say or not.

I talked so damn much that night, come Sunday my throat is still a little gravelly.

Saturday, had a lie in, no hangover. I didn't even do my hair as planned and will do it next weekend. Only managed to wash and condition it. I was glued to season 6 of Sex & The City for most of the day as well as a 90 minute nail biting edition of X Factor. That was pretty much my lazy day of the weekend. As well as a lil relationship convo with Miss D. From here on I will never utter the words "so what's going on with you and so and so." She let me know where her head was at regarding so and so and that's all I was concerned about. Do your thing!

Sunday, OMG up at the crack of dawn 7:30am is the crack of dawn for me. A 10am shopping start at London Fashion Weekend with my sister.

Here's pretty much what I snagged

A Bracher Emden red/black leather handbag with semi precious stones and Swarovski crystals - was £799 for £150 [don't even get me started it the same bag Rihanna has, but she's not even got it on the right way round. The semi-precious stones are on the OTHER SIDE!!!!!]
A Crumpet England cashmere racer back vest in Yellow - was £95 for £7.50
A Blush B-Lush gold metallic leather and black suede large hobo bag - was roughly £300-400 for £100
A Elisa Atheniense soft leather grey Handbag - was £200+ for £15
A Elisa Atheniense soft leather caramel coloured Handbag - was £200+ for £40
A Tabitha White bag was £295 for £55
Some crazy designed Japanese top for £5 [no idea on the retail or the brand]
A Malene Birger cropped jacket was £159 for £15
Some jewellery from Anna Lou of London 2 bracelets, 2 necklaces, 2 pairs of earrings for £40

I bought my friend a white leather Elisa Atheniense Handbag - was £200+ for £15, she loved it. THANK GOD!

I was a happy bunny to say the least, and as much as I want to go to the Ted Baker sample sale on Wednesday I'm bailing out. I can shop, but I also know how to pay my bills and save my money and be disciplined. When I can go for 4-6 months at a time not shopping, a hit in one like today is justified and pretty decent for what I got considering the retail on them. And I did good today. I got my leather bag(s), and my intention was to get one. But being leather and at those prices, there was no way I was leaving quality crafted leather handbags that are on sale for the same as PVC bags. And anyone that knows me knows I don't do PVC in shoes, handbags or belts.

Well the day is nearly over. So more Sex & The City for me and some R&R before Monday tomorrow. I've been watching too much SATC because I picked up a pair of earrings and said to my sister "those are sooooo Samantha."

**rolls eyes and slaps forehead**

I'm feeling positive and hope the week ahead will be so as well. So fingers crossed.

The Girls Have Arrived! But We Won't Party Till Saturday!

The only white BFF's that I have in my social circle arrived today to my surprise. Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha and Miranda were on my doorstep at 7:30pm this evening. And boy oh boy Carrie's big hair on the extended cut DVD looks fabulous. I also got season 6, so that completes the SATC collection for me.

YES YES YES!!! Hey if men can have sports we can have this. It's justified! Will there ever be another show to grace our screens in my lifetime that surpasses SATC? I highly doubt it so I cannot wait until Saturday to take it all in and finally see the movie, as I promised Mrs H I'd see it with her, but we never got around to it. Tomorrow night is out at the bar for Miss D's 30th birthday soiree, and if that wasn't on the cards then I would have done a double bill at the movies seeing Death Race and Righteous Kill. Doing my hair on Saturday, [and for black women this is an event within itself] so that's me and the girls time on DVD and Sunday is London Fashion Weekend, then I'll fit the movies in after that. I've got a busy weekend....for once!!!

TV Review: Lipstick Jungle

Mrs H is my gal pal, and during our e-mail convo this morning this is what she had to say.
"Lipstick jungle is evil. I sat through the first episode with my husband, and spent the whole time cussing. This show is telling women they can't have it all! What a farce. The storyline was weak, the acting was desperate at best, and the wardrobe was basic - however I also remember the first few episodes of SATC, and will struggle on and give this show a chance." - Mrs H.

It aired in the UK 2 nights ago on 'cable' [we don't call it cable in this country, we call it digital or if it's your provider SKY]. I myself, bought the 1st season on a whim for about $19.99 in one of my favourite stores on the planet 'Best Buy' and only grabbed it instead of Dirt starring Courtney Cox because it had the sticker on the front 'from the Author of Sex & The City'.
My eyes widened in glee as I now had another New York City fix of successful ladies, wearing the hell out of their clothes and enjoying all the relationship drama that was about to come their way.
I've had it on my shelf for months. I don't need to watch it to know that nothing can replace, Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte. And it never will. It really felt like I was having an extra marital affair by giving Lipstick Jungle the time of day when I was settling down to watch it.

I spent the first 15 minutes screwing my face up, expecting a 4th member of the girly gang to join them (and secretly hope she would be black), as much as I knew these were three white... OK 2.5 white women as one is part Asian, I've been used to 4 gal pals on screen for so long that three now looks like the loneliest number. I missed narration over the show, I missed Carrie in her mixed match ensembles and Samantha with her legs in the air. Raver's sex scene, if you could call it that was a little bit desperate. I never knew women could make so much noise from their pantyhose being ripped off, she looked like she was about ready to orgasm.

Mrs H in reference to can we as women have it all like men can...
"Yes we can! I'm not going to lie and say it's not hard, but compromise is key. Why should we have be like men in the boardroom, when being a woman is ball breaking enough. I hate the fact that having a womb is a seen as a handicap, when the ability to multi-task makes us effective operators in the bedroom, boardroom and the nursery. The thing is having it all is down to perception, do we want a man's perception of success or are we striving towards our own aspirations of what success is. Personally I don't 'want' it all, I'm going to have it all, after all I not only want to have my cake, but eat it too (these hips don't lie)." - Mrs H

All in all, the pilot was just that, a teaser and a taster. I will give the 5 hour long season 1 series a chance and try and rid my mind of the SATC girls. Just like Nico (Raver) cried home in the limo after cheating on her husband is how I pretty much felt watching this show. SATC is over and no matter how much I sleep around trying to fill that void with other fashionably female cast TV shows it will never be like it was with my first true love.

Thoughts of the Day

Jennifer Lopez is doing promo shots in Greece for an upcoming world tour. A world tour???? Give me a friggin break!

The other Jennifer (Hudson) is pictured in the same damn dress (as worn on Mariah) I own and she's doing it no justice. I actually don't want to wear it now. Juvenile I know but not everything is made for everyone. **I'll be over it in an hour, and probably wear it on my next night out**

So I take it without actually confirming it Lindsay Lohan is indeed a lesbian.

Heidi Klum hosted the Emmy's. After Agnes Deyn she's the most boring model to ever have lived. 200+ million people in the USA 99% of them celebs from Hollywood and You Tube circles and this is the best they could do.

George Michael can never visit a public toilet again without someone calling the police.

With the release of Sex & The City: The Movie on DVD today (and of course I bought it) and now with the UK premiere of Lipstick Jungle (even though I've had the US DVD Season 1 for months now) I really do miss Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte on the small screen weekly. Will I ever witness a great TV show full of fashion, love, friendship and sex in my lifetime? Maybe I should take the cellophane off of Lipstick Alley and see if it can act as the cheap fling after my SATC love affair to fill this void. Plus the girls in the office would have watched it and tomorrow I need to be at least 1-2 episodes ahead, but not after I've finished watching Heat with DeNiro and Pacino.

Can you go from one of the best shoot out scenes in a movie ever, to women, shoes & handbags in the same evening?
