Blast From The Past: 3T

Taj, TJ & Taryll Jackson - 3T
For the short time that they were making music and selling out venues across the world, 3T aka Tito Jackson's sons Toriano (Taj), Taryll and Tito (TJ), aka Michael Jackson's nephews made some pretty decent songs.

Blast From The Past: The Jackson 5, Mariah Carey & Michael Jackson - 'I'll Be There'

Mariah Carey and a young Michael Jackson (R.I.P.)
One song, three different versions.

I heard this song today, which became my inspiration for today's Blast from the Past' post. Such an incredible song that I really felt it wouldn't be right to just post one version of the song by either The Jackson 5 or Mariah Carey so included both, as well as the infamous 1992 Pepsi commercial featuring Michael Jackson. [One of my favourite Pepsi commercials of ALL time]. If you haven't seen it, after watching it you may see why I said that. No frills, no fuss, just simple. Short and sweet, yet magical as only Michael could.

Fashion Spotlight: Elie Saab + Blast From the Past: Halle's Emotional Oscar Speech

Remember when Halle Berry won her Academy Award for her lead role in Monster's Ball? Do you remember the designer she was wearing?

Well I guess you do now as you've peeped the title. If you were a little slow off the mark, the designer was in fact Elie Saab.

It was the very first time I'd ever heard of the Lebanese designer, and it was this dress and Halle's win that catapulted him to further international recognition, status and success.

Blast From the Past: Kriss Kross

One was called Mac Daddy, and the other was Daddy Mac. They were both called Chris. Both wore their clothes backwards, and for a very short period in the 90's pretty much every girl I knew had a favourite Chris and knew which one they wanted to marry.

They didn't last long on the music scene. Sure they made more than one album but after a sophomore track to 'Jump' the hype had pretty much fizzled in the UK at least for the boys. For the very short period of time that they were popular, many young girls over many nations were snatching up copies of Right On, and Word Up magazine for a cover shot or poster of the Atlanta, Georgia native duo.

"Let Us Go, Set Us Free From All This Propaganda & Lies That Your People Try To Teach Us"

Once again, there is more ignorance infiltrating the media about Black women.
According to an ingrate who shall not be named, we are now the most unattractive when it comes to every other race of people on the planet???

I haven't read the article, and I don't intend to as it will serve no purpose other than unnecessary anger....and you know according to everyone "Black women are just angry for no reason" so let's not give them any more ammunition. Nothing worse than an ugly and angry Black woman right??

I can't think of a more fitting 'Blast From the Past' song than Freedom which featured on the 1995 Mario Van Peebles film 'Panther.'

Kanye West On Twitter & That Infamous George Bush Outburst!

“Mr West is in the building...”

...the Twitter building that is. Funnily enough I was actually thinking just a few days ago, "when is Kanye going to jump on board the Twitter bandwagon?"

Today is the day folks.

I really hope he’s just as arrogant on Twitter as he is in real life. Why? I have a penchant for cocky, arrogant folks, especially ones who are actually talented. Plus he's comedy...even when he's trying not to be.

How long it will take for Kanye to reach 1,000,000 followers?
How long before Kanye has his first Twitter outburst?
How long before Kanye tells another celeb on Twitter "hold on, I'mma let you finish, but I tweeted the greatest tweet of all time?"
How long before Kanye shuts down his account complaining about all the 'haters?' Only to set another one up demanding Twitter restore all of his followers, tweet count and content?

The #1 person on Twitter with the most followers is Britney Spears. Kayne is NOT going to like that at all, even though it took him over three years to join, on day 1 you know he expects to have 6 million followers in 24 hours.

As I write this, in 3 hours Kanye has 46,111 followers. Let's see how long before he breaks the 1 million mark, and gets into the Top 10 most popular celebs on Twitter.

    Blast From The Past:
The look on Mike Myers face is STILL priceless to this day. A very emotional Kanye deviates from the autocue to go on his infamous George Bush rant. Mike is saying in his head "This is NOT on the autocue. Oh my Jesus.....Let me proceed to occassionally look at Mr West...to the people...to Mr West...to the people...nod....no not at that part....OK I can nod at that part....holy shit we're live...I can't do a damn thing...If I stand real still maybe no one will even notice I'm here!"

Blast From The Past: Sister Sledge - Then & Now

So 26 years later and I still cannot believe 4 attractive black women were stalking and singing about a fat, pudgy, unattractive white man named Frankie. That was the first time I ever remember being exposed to anything interracial. I was scarred for life and have never ventured away from my 'strong black brothas' [as sung like En Vogue.]

On a serious tip though, I really was confused by the choice of lead make for this video, even as a 5 year old.

    Then

In this instance, the black is most definitely cracking when it comes to Sister Sledge. Performing this past weekend at Tamworth, the sisters looked a little hella tired. The words that left my mouth when I saw this began with 'Raa' and ended with 'Tid'

    Now

I'm sorry but the picture used to promote the sisters for Tamworth Music Festival 2010 were a far cry from the ones that hit the stage.

Blast From The Past: 80's Picture of Will Smith & Mariah Carey Together

    Source: Mariah Daily

OMG at this old school pic of Mariah (before she hit the big time) Carey with Will Smith in 1998. Two years after this photo was taken who the young Mariah was about to become a global superstar. What's great to see that 22 years later these two are still rich and very successful. Here's to many more years to that!

I'm sorry but Will does look like he has some sugar in his tank in this photo.

Khia! That Is All. For This Woman I Could NOT Think of A Decent Title!

Let us pray and may the Lord have divine mercy upon our souls. The souls that are dead and gone. The souls yet to grace this earth, and the souls that are about to watch the following videos. Amen.

Yes people YUH HAV FI PRAY before watching anything Khia puts out. Mark the sign of the cross on your screen folks, it's about to get real ugly up in here.

I was scoping the Internet the other day for some off key mess that would get my blood boiling in the hopes of inspiring a blog post. I didn't need to as I remembered this mess that was put out by Khia many years ago. Now if you don't remember Khia, she is the one that wanted you to...errrm....lick it in places that no man EVER should on Khia Shamone Finch Chambers.

The song that put Khia on the map, then had her fall off just as quick was 'My Neck, My Back', then she decided to come back and tell us something about snatching her cat back.

    This video is NSFW.
    N-O-T-H-I-N-G from Khia is SFW!

There's something about this woman, that makes you want to take a shower, then have a priest bless you and command every demon out!!! Mandatory positive: She has nice skin.

This has got to be the some of the most ghettoist [yes I know that isn't a word] shit I have ever seen in my life. And why does she look like she smells real bad?? Someone on You Tube commented and said that she needs to get a really good bra from JC Penny. Good bra and JC Penney in the same sentence? Really? When I think of good bras Rigby & Peller spring to mind, JC Penney does not!

Wikipedia states her daughter is called Lil Khia...I really hope that she called her child Khia Jr and none of that Lil mess.

Be whose lady? I don't know any self respecting man that would take Khia home to his mother? I know there are some un-self respecting ones that would tap that on the regualr and keep her behind closed doors. This chick is not take home to mama material. She's not even take to KFC (too upmarket) Chicken Cottage material.

Why is this song so damn repetitive? I bet you'll catch yourself singing it, after you watch it.

Now aside from those ridiculous glasses, telling people to VOTE for her single instead of BUY it, she actually seems pretty nicely spoken and not so hood like from her music videos. Maybe this was Khia's 'white voice' you know the ones where we speak part Ebonics, part [insert your roots here], then when it comes to work we're all "Good Morning, and how are we all this fine and glorious day?" I'll give her some props I didn't even know she could switch it up just a little to sound somewhat passable for a hood chick.

Yep definitely her 'white' voice. The real voice is in the video below.

I'm done. I just am. WTF can you say to all of that? If you made it through ANY of those videos. God bless you my child!

Blast From The Past: She Is...[My Ode to My Women]

One of my favourite blogs written by yours truly from 2008, as an ode to my fellow Black women. [See I'm not all about the cursing, and the overly opinionated side of me all of the time].

It's written about myself, family and friends. You just maybe one of the women it relates to as well.

Blast From The Past: Ungrateful? Count - Your Blessings

I was looking through some old blog posts from way back when. Check it out!

It's all about being grateful for what you have. Taking something you see as the negative and turning it into something positive, so you feel blessed and grateful.

What Are Mariah and Jermaine Dupri Cookin' Up In The Studio?

My favourite songstress tweeted earlier today a pic of her and producer friend, Jermaine Dupri in the studio working on some new material.

Jermaine first collaborated with Mariah on Always Be My Baby, and they have been fast friends and business associates ever since.

Whether it's a track for the remix album for 'Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel' [I hope not, that's one album we don't need two of] or brand new material...let's hope it's gonna be something worthwhile circulating on the radio stations, clubs and in your cars.

A few weeks into 40 and Mariah is looking beautiful and radiant as ever. Then we have Jermaine looking very umm....what can I say...hobbit-like.

Here's a 'blast from the past' collabo from Mariah and JD

Blast From The Past: Daddy Cool by Boney M

I love disco and I sure as hell love Boney M. This is one of my favourite Boney M classics. Is the brotha having a seizure or something? Dude needs to chill out before be busts a tear in his pants.

As always You Tube comments are the best: Please bear in mind Boney M have a HUGE European following to this day. The piss poor English comments are better read in a European accent for better effect.

    • This man is lost on alcohol an cocaine!
    • I remember as a kid laughing at that guy's dancing. But looking back he was a great mover!
    • Oh yeah! Acid trip! Get down James Brown! I'm not trying to sound sarcastic, but homeboy can really get down. I like it!
    • They just straight up do not make chicks like that anymore. And I don't care who you are, that cat can fuckin' move.
    • That motherfucker on acid!!!!!!!!!!!
    • I dont know what He's on but I want some. Thats called letting go of all your inhibitions. Cool!
    • This guy is masterpice of freestyle
    • lol was that dance choreographed lol
    • i want him jacket and trousers!
    • Love this song! Love his dancing also, its like chic geek.
    • check out the crowd ! all those honkies with no rythem at all..lol.... :-))) total restiction.. u must not get up and move ur ting lol...so 70 s
    • lol. the camera should have stayed on him the whole time.
    • WHAT A damn cool dance :D:D
    • that man can't stop moving! he's incredible... i saw him in a tvshow a few years ago and he still continued moving the same way! ;)
    • Damn those birds can harmonise!
    • And the dude, give him props for dancing like that, Mad man. Brilliant.
    • I have a theory: the guy actually has flees all over him, that's why he moves that way. Sometimes, if you pay atention, you'll see that he manages to grab one or another and kicks it away... then just keeps going! By the end, they are stinging him so bad that he needs to take off his jacket. BAD case of flees...
    • Thats not really funny. People ina 60's and 70's really danced like that.

Blast From The Past - Remember the 80's?

Got this from a friend on Facebook…So bloody true!

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were.

When they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning uphill... barefoot...BOTH ways yadda, yadda, yadda. And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it, and how easy they've got it!

But now that I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today. You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn utopia! And I hate to say it but you kids today don't know how good you've got it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have the Internet. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the damn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalogue!! There was no email!! We had to actually write somebody a letter, with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!

There were no MP3' s or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself! Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ would usually talk over the beginning and fuck it all up!

We didn't have fancy crap like call waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it! And we didn't have fancy caller ID either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom, your boss, your bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games Like 'Space Invaders' and 'Asteroids'. Your guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination!! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen forever! And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your ass and walk over to the TV to change the channel. And there was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday morning. Do you hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK For cartoons, you spoiled little rat-bastards!

And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up we had to use the stove ... Imagine that! That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled. You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980!

    Regards,
    The over 30 Crowd

Blast From The Past: David Gregory Dancing

I love this clip, and I love seeing white folks on the beat. Gotta give the man props for the spin alone. I laughed so hard my chest hurt.

Not only black women love Mary J Blige it seems.

Blast from the Past: The Moon is Walking by Ladysmith Black Mamboza

I first heard this song way way way back, 20 years ago to be exact when I was 9 years old. Being a Michael Jackson fan my aunt took me and my sister to the cinema to see Michael Jackson's Moonwalker in 1988, and at the end of the film was when I was first saw Ladysmith Black Mamboza performing the Moon is Walking. I'd never seen anything like it before, and you can imagine at 9 years old being mesmerized at being able to actually feel the music, the beat and the rhythm when the only instruments used were their voices, hands and feet. I knew of them a year prior from constantly requesting my dad to play the African influenced and infamous Paul Simon album Graceland [how many 7 year olds do you know that were into Paul Simon?]

Call me a hippy, but I don't care, Ladysmith Black Mamboza when I listen to their music it really does take me away, and the feeling I'd definitely equate to being almost euphoric, if I've had a stressful day I can really unwind to their music especially a song called Inkanyezi Nezazi as well as their popular hit Homeless.

20 years on and I still love this song and the way in which it was performed. In fact love is an understatement it belongs in my all time Top 10 of songs, that's how much I love it. Enjoy!
